In September 2020, the ABC Four Corners program aired a story on Australia’s mental health system. Our NSW member, Mental Health Carers NSW has published its response to the story, which is available here: https://www.mentalhealthcarersnsw.org/mhcns-response-to-abcs-four-corners-program/.
MHCA has endorsed this response and particularly highlights the following statement as critical in any future story telling process in relation to the mental health system: “MHCN supports consumers and carers who have difficult stories to tell, to allow us to understand the full scale of our problems, so long as they respect the rights and dignity of others and take care to avoid perpetuating trauma and stigma”.
